In Red Head I delve into the exploration of identity through the interplay of bronze and glass. Bronze, with its enduring and unyielding nature, becomes the embodiment of our permanent, more rigid identity. It symbolizes the external shell that defines us in the eyes of the world, a tangible representation of the self we present to others.
Contrastingly, glass becomes the canvas for the ephemeral and ever-changing aspects of our internal life. It acts as a translucent barrier, allowing glimpses into the intricate tapestry of our thoughts, emotions, and spirit. The transparency of glass signifies the vulnerability and openness that comes with expressing the internal landscape.
The sculpture invites viewers to question the dichotomy between the outwardly projected self and the intricate, ever-evolving essence within. It is an inquiry into the symbiotic relationship between permanence and fluidity, inviting contemplation on the multifaceted nature of human existence.

As you walk from side to side in front of the bust various faces shift into focus. Encased inside are the faces of my family members and they change from one to the other in a hologram like effect as you walk along. Also, the height of the bust + pedestal is equivalent to my height now, at 5' 4".

Throughout life we all put on masks. We may not remember how it was first put on or when. Why we felt the need to have one or many. Over time these masks become who are to the world, characteristics that cover our souls. Eventually the soul longs to be set free and then the time comes when we cannot remove them without removing skin.
The bronze in this piece mimics our masks. It is strong and unmoving, but has the power to be changed through abrasive acts. Much like the climax moments in our own lives that change who we are.

Growing into an adult and living on my own I naturally began examining my identity and history as an individual. This led to the creation of autobiographical and narrative work which followed the logic and language of a laboratory experiment. In the creation of this work, I used visual characteristics such as grouping, voids, color, and material choice as my experimental factors. Grouping spoke about interpersonal relationships between individuals. Missing faces became the presence of the void. Rather than being moments of emptiness, they represented an active space; full of conceptual and emotional possibility. The characteristic of color spoke to aesthetic decisions as well a spiritual nature that furthered the existentialism of the void in some pieces. Materiality is dictated by choosing the medium and material that has the most appropriate language to communicate the intended thoughts or emotions to my audience. It is because of this, and because of my love for learning, that I am always eager to explore new processes and materials in order to assimilate new visual languages to my vocabulary. I see the process of making much like running a lab, while the finished work is the report. Unlike a scientist who works for resolutions these all end in a premise. Always asking questions, but seldomly answering them.

Days of Paradox consists of 84 custom slides that are projected through the front of the bust onto a wall. The slides range in clarity from blurry to clear. Some are manipulated with ink, drawing, collage, or layered images while some are left alone. Each image is from my family or personal photos and taken throughout my childhood up until the completion of this piece. The slides are numbered and lettered but there is no order. This lack of order and range in clarity speak to the way in which my memory and the memories of many tend to work. The height of this piece is equivalent to my height at 5'4". There is no performance associated with this piece as it is up to the viewer to interact with the slides and projection for however many they wish to experience. This to me mimics the relationships of everyday life between individuals where it is up to each of us to invest the time if we desire to get to know someone deeper.
